Digging for Dinos

Circle Time:
We always review letters, shapes & numbers in circle time, but today we started working on a HIGH FREQUENCY word list. These are words that are common in the English vocabulary, but are difficult to sound out. Memorizing these can be VERY useful as a child begins to learn to read. We will be working on reading some of these words throughout the next few months.

We played a fun listening game, which included passing the dinosaur around in the circle & STOPPING on cue.

For Reading today, I read, "Oh say can you say Dinosaur?" out loud

We watched Dinosaur Train after reading our book and tried to pick out the different dinos!
We sang a FUN song in Music Time, called
"Oh, Dinosaurs!"

Dinosaur - sung to "Oh, Christmas Tree"
Oh, Dinosaurs
Oh, Dinosaurs
How big you are to me.
Oh, Dinosaurs
Oh, Dinosaurs
What a wonder you are to me.
So heavy,
So tall
As you lived long ago.
Oh, Dinosaurs
Oh, Dinosaurs
How wonderful you are to me.

point out things that start with C...make sure they aren't all the "k" sound, like CAT...include the words that have the "s" sound, like CIRCUS!

At Home Activity Idea:
Set a timer and have your child go around the house finding things that start with the letter B & see how many items they can bring you in a set amount of time! Talk about each item & whether or not they actually start with the letter B. If they brought back an item that does not start with B, tell them what letter it starts with & the sound that it makes!
